Car Wash Customer Names Lustra™ Mascot, Wins $10,000
" Brighton" is the name suggested by Alfred Berry of Chanhassen, Minn.
De Pere, Wis.–– A Minnesota man provided the winning name for Lustra Professional Car Care Products’ lovable polar bear mascot in the Name the Bear, Win a Mini contest. Alfred Berry of Chanhassen, Minn., won the grand prize when the name he submitted – Brighton – was chosen from among 80,000 entries nationwide.
"I’m extremely excited about this," Berry said, after opting for a cash prize of $10,000, instead of a Mini Cooper automobile. "I was pretty much blown away. I consider this one of the highlights of my life. It was surreal."
That’s the sort of reaction Jim McDermott, Lustra’s vice president of sales and marketing, was hoping for. "It was a fun way to raise the awareness of our products," he said. "The contest was also a great way to connect with customers like Alfred Berry and give them direct input into an important decision for us – namely, coming up with a fitting name for our Lustra mascot."
An experienced, independent judging panel evaluated name submissions for the contest. The
name Brighton won based on its fit with Lustra’s brand personality, its originality, creativity, and
overall score. Berry was randomly selected as the grand-prize winner from a pool of 113 entries
who also submitted the name Brighton.
More than 80,000 car wash customers from around the country entered the nationwide contest to name the mascot for the Lustra brand of environmentally friendly car wash solutions. The contest ran from July through September.
